Conergy subsidiary EPURON signs Joint Venture Agreement with Macquarie Capital for Australia’s biggest wind farm

8 January 2008

EPURON Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of the TecDax listed Conergy AG, and Macquarie Capital Group Pty Limited have signed a joint framework agreement for developing, financing and building Australia’s biggest wind farm in Silverton, far western New South Wales, Australia.

Between 400-500 wind turbines with an ultimate capacity of around 1,000 megawatt, the Silverton Wind Farm could cover 4.5% of the annual energy needs of New South Wales with environmentally-friendly electricity.

This will correspond to the power consumption of more than 400,000 households per year.

EPURON executive director Andrew Durran said Macquarie's financial backing was an important endorsement. “This joint venture brings together Macquarie Capital’s strength and experience in financing large scale infrastructure and EPURON’s worldwide expertise in wind power." "What the Macquarie involvement confirms is the fundamental viability of the project," he said.

Rob Sauer, chairman of EPURON Pty Ltd who has been appointed chairman of the joint venture added: "We are entering an exciting new phase of the development of renewable energy for Australia - and, together with Macquarie Capital, we will be well positioned to deliver excellent results from the Silverton project for all stakeholders, including the local community”.

The project for building Australia’s largest wind park is currently in the planning stages, and is expected to submit a development application to the New South Wales Department of Planning in 2008.
