Statement on the Federal Government’s 2007-08 Budget Announcement

9 May 2007

Rodger Meads, Managing Director of Conergy Pty Ltd, has welcomed the decision by the Federal Government to invest a further $150 million in solar technology in the 2007-08 Budget release.

The investment involves additional funding to increase the Photovoltaic Rebate Programme (PVRP) from $4 per Watt to $8 per Watt, up to a maximum of $8,000. It means that the approximate cost to install a 1kW domestic solar power system will drop from around $11,000 down to $7,000, allowing more households the possibility to produce clean electricity and reduce their pay-back time on the system. The announcement also includes a grants scheme for schools and communities, resources to train and accredit new installers, as well as further state-based REC’s and reductions in costs which will provide further incentives for Australians to take up renewable energy generation.

Rodger Meads today said that “Conergy welcomes any initiatives and incentives offered by the Government that allow more households to install renewable energy systems. Many more people will now be able to play their part in combating climate change without breaking the bank. The new rebate acknowledges the value of grid connected solar and we applaud this decision. It will also naturally stimulate and grow the Australian renewable energy industry through strong policy settings. Australia is on its way to catching up in the global solar race and this is a significant step towards that goal.”
