NSW Government support for solar goes gross

10 November 2009

Conergy, a global leader in the manufacture and distribution of renewable energy systems, has welcomed news that NSW is set to adopt a gross feed-in tariff to support the growth of the renewable energy industry in the State.

The policy, which has long been advocated by the sector, was announced by the NSW Government today.

"This is great news for the people of NSW and a welcome boost to the solar industry in the State," Rodger Meads, Conergy’s Managing Director said.

"This scheme puts NSW at the front of the pack in its support for solar power.

"The Government announcement details a rate of 60 cents per kilowatt hour to be paid on systems up to 10kW - this will drive local investment in NSW.

"Quite simply this will stimulate our industry and create jobs while also making a real difference to the average householder’s power bills and emissions," Mr Meads said.

A gross feed-in tariff pays households for all of the electricity they generate with solar power systems and not just the smaller net amount for surplus electricity they sell back into the power grid.

"Conergy Australia is pleased to see this support for solar from the NSW Premier and NSW Energy Minister John Robertson and is looking forward to reviewing the policy in detail.

"We hope that the plan is supported by everyone in the NSW Parliament and has a smooth ride through the legislative process," Mr Meads said.
