SHCP grid connect rebate is replaced by Solar Credits

10 June 2009

As of 9th June 2009, the Australian Federal Government’s Solar Homes and Communities (SHCP) rebate of up to $8,000 for residential solar power installations has ceased. According to DEWHA, unprecedented growth under the Government's Solar Homes and Communities Plan has resulted in early closure of this program and the immediate introduction of Solar Credits under the new expanded Renewable Energy Target (RET).

This means that households installing a grid connected solar power system will now fall under the Solar Credits scheme, which will allow homes, businesses and community organisations to access a rebate which was previously only available to residential installations.

The expanded Renewable Energy Target would be delivered in addition to the Government's $4.5 billion Clean Energy Initiative, including $465 million to establish a new body to promote the development, commercialisation and deployment of renewable technologies and $1.365 billion for the Solar Flagships program, helping establish Australia as a world leader in solar technology.
